N3DS : Now Gaming Redefine
Posted on 10:53 PM by The G
Nintendo 3DS. About Nintendo handheld system, it's like an Apple iPhone in the world of gaming. Constantly changing how we interact with the game. Bring gaming to everywhere our feet can take us. Anywhere we want to play it. From black & white, to color, to flip, to touchscreen and now 3D. Not a 3D generated image. But 3D projection image. Give you a sense of space in the game. Well, words barely can describe it. If you touch it you'll be amaze. So hop on the ride, lets experience 3D. To the Third Dimension !
HARDWARE
Clam shell body. Flip it open and there is an analog thumb slider will welcome you. A new thing to see here where it was not there in NDS, NDS Lite and NDSi. Ninty name it Circle or Side Pad, where whatever it was call, it's surely comfortable to use. More good thing here is, it has a good precision, pressure sensitive (which has the best use at racing or shooting game) and grace. A little bit springy maybe, but things is never as perfect as this. D-Pad is move a bit lower here in order to give room for the Circle. Not that comfortable if you are playing old Gameboy and Gamboy Advance title. For playing DS game, you still can use the Circle but without the pressure sensitivity thing. The A, B, X, Y is still in the diamond pattern. The L and R is on top, with sufficient travel and nice protrusion. Start, Select and Home button located underneath that resistive touchscreen. No need for capacitive here since it's responsive. Plus you won't do much typing here anyway. The best thing is its 320 x 240 resolution, boosted size compare to DSi. But the deal here is not this craps, but this shit, 3D.
3D PROJECTION
Don't get confuse here about projection since it's not equip with a projector. But the 3D screen didn't use any glasses in order for you to experience it. So the things portray by the screen is virtually projected in either deep in the screen or floating on your 3DS. That is the real sense of 3D. Time to thank the parallax 3D screen. And now, time to complain a bit. The viewing angle is quite disappointing. But that's merely the case since you need to lock your eyes exactly right on the screen to experience optimum 3D with a distance of 12 inch from your face. By the way, when the unit display 2D image, things look very sharp, brilliant and crisp. Still hard isn't it. That's why it has silver slider on the right. Which you may control how far or close apart the game virtual camera. If it was close, than the space or in-depth field is 0. Like what you see at normal console. If it was further apart, the space is created and you'll have sense of 3D. Sound complicated but once you try it, it's become second nature to you. One advice to give though, if your body moves around while you're playing the game, thing can be a bit dizzy since your brain need to process two images at once. So don't put that 3D depth too high.
BATTERY LIFE
This is a major let down. With the system, you'll have fun for only three to three and a half hour. With wifi on. Without it, you can increase another thirty minutes of gameplay. Switching off 3D will yield the same result. So better switch it back on. At least it's easier for parent to supervise their kid and give time for the kid to do some homework and study before play it back again. Hide the charger if they are acting bad as a punishment. For teen like me, that is disturbing. Good thing though if you play DS title, it give you about twice that time, reach to 6 hours of play time. Still, it is about half of what you get from DS Lite.
COMPATIBILITY.
All DS title is welcome here . But you can't play 3DS title on DS. Plus there is some title which in DS need about 2 or 3 seconds to boot up. But when played in 3DS it take 8 to 10 seconds to do so. Don't worry though, once you pass that white screen, things will look awesome.
TRIPLE SNAPPER
3DS is three mania. It got 3D and now three cameras. Two at the back to give you 3D photo pleasure and on the front to let people know how you look like when playing games. So the overall quality isn't that good, unfortunately. Low light quality is poor. It's not something you can hang around the wall unless you can justify it was a pixel abstract art. Playing with 3D picture is some what fun, for the first time, but soon you'll get bored with it. But that head bodiless game is seriously funny and silly.
AUGMENTING REALITY
This is something to look at. Thanks to the twin cameras at back of the lid, you'll see something which only exist in your 3DS world. Give you ability to see ghost. Well not that real haunting things that's gonna scare you to death. But rather be a thing that doesn't suppose to be there but blend well as it was really there but only can be seen on your 3DS screen. That' augmenting reality. To begin with, you are bundle with six card to look at via the twin camera. You'll get a 3D model of that all time (or old time) Nintendo hero. Which nothing to compare when you look at the box with question mark. Where you get interact with. This is something do develop and bring to the mainstream. This is the best. Like you can play gears of war in your house environment, where you are pin down in the kitchen.
