If You Have Time: Shoot The Earth.
Posted on 3:38 AM by The G
This wouldn't cost you much money to begin with. Less than rm500 to be exact. With this amount of money, it'll give a chance to shoot the curvature of earth. That can make NASA a bit jealous. Plus it'll give you an extra feeling of having your own junior satellite. That is the exact feeling of what this M.I.T undergrads just experience. With a budget of $150, Justin Lee and Oliver Yeh proudly present you the curvature of earth. Want to know how do they do it?
September 2, 2009. Launch of the balloon at Sturbridge, Mass. Project Icarus. That's what they named it. All they need is a weather balloon with helium, a Styrofoam cooler underneath to hold the camera. Instant hand warmers also put inside to prevent the electronics from freezing. For tracking, a GPS enabled also used. University of Wisconsin is the one who responsible for tracking the trajectory. Short cut the read, here is the info.
- a weather balloon, helium filled.
- a GPS enabled prepaid phone.
- Canon A470 (hacked to enable intervalometer, 1 shot per 5 seconds)
- a styrofoam cooler.
- hand warmers.
- the balloon reach 28 346.8 m.
- 4 hours to reach up, 40 minutes to land (the balloon popped)
- picture
- guide HOW TO -- there is a pdf version also for download.
